The Group B (Urban Design Division) of the Master’s Program in Architecture and Urban Design at National Taipei University of Technology is the only graduate institute in Taiwan with urban design as its educational core. Over the two-year professional program, students participate in group-based learning in "Urban Design and Studio" courses, training them to work collaboratively with peers from diverse backgrounds, such as architecture, urban planning, land administration, landscape, urban development, and social and regional development. Students actively engage in the planning and design of urban spaces.
In addition to design studios, students can explore a wide range of topics in urban design research by joining the four research labs led by distinguished faculty, thereby developing the knowledge, skills, and attitude required to meet future professional challenges.
Beyond the formal curriculum, the division also offers numerous international exchange opportunities. In recent years, joint workshops have been held with Chulalongkorn University (Thailand), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), Tokyo Metropolitan University, and others. In 2018, a dual degree program was established in cooperation with the University of Manchester (UK), providing students with multiple options including the MSc Planning, MSc Urban Regeneration and Development, and MSc Urban Design & International Planning.
Urban Ecology Laboratory
This laboratory primarily investigates ecological and health-related issues within urban planning, such as urban heat islands, urban air quality, urban wind fields, pollutant dispersion, and urban rainfall infiltration. Scientific methods like technical monitoring, experiments, and computer simulations are applied to urban planning, urban design, site planning, and architectural design to implement goals for sustainable cities and healthy buildings. The lab is equipped with devices including particulate matter detectors, hazardous gas analyzers, VOC detectors, formaldehyde analyzers, micro wind field measurement instruments; and uses CFD software such as Fovent, Star-CD, Field-View, and Map-Info.

Urban Environmental Regeneration Laboratory
This laboratory focuses on researching various aspects of the urban environment encountered during development, including land, space, ecology, cultural heritage, climate, regulations, and architecture. It is committed to promoting sustainable urban development and creating more livable urban environments. The lab studies how cities realize inclusivity and cohesion across generations and cultures, helps diverse cultural assets find future possibilities, and enhances understanding of urban form through training and practical application in architectural planning, urban planning, and design.
In recent years, to advance professional and precise handling of urban microclimate issues, the lab actively collaborates with science and engineering departments related to fluid mechanics. By integrating expertise in architecture and urban studies, the lab has produced outstanding research results.

Urban Space Analysis and Representation Laboratory
This laboratory primarily focuses on the production and representation of urban and architectural spaces. Through the application of tools such as spatial configuration analysis, behavioral observation and scoring, and machine learning, it investigates how planning and design at different scales influence the aggregation and flow of people within spaces, and further transform the meaning and value of spatial existence.

Urban Image and Media Culture Laboratory
Since the late 2000s, as cities at all levels in Taiwan gradually aligned with global urban development processes, there has been a recent trend in urban cultural governance that explores possibilities beyond the previous reliance on political and economic development models. In this process, various forms of image media have been heavily involved; from top-down urban policy and image construction projects to bottom-up media documenting local history and culture, manifested through community building and tourism practices. Faced with these emerging phenomena in urban design and cultural governance, this laboratory aims to collect first-hand local data and transform it into concepts and theories that can be applied by government agencies, planning units, community organizations, and enterprises and individuals in the image and cultural creative industries. The laboratory further hopes to engage in dialogue with current global academic theoretical developments, allowing the Taiwan experience to gain a place on different geographical scales such as Chinese-speaking cities, the Asian region, and the global stage. Ultimately, the laboratory’s research results will also contribute to the emerging interdisciplinary field of "media and environmental studies," dedicated to shaping and expanding this new domain.
